MP Anna Soubry must be Vigilant after the second of two death threats she has received in a week.
The Remain-supporting Conservative MP contacted police after a sick Twitter post asking someone to “Jo Cox” her came to light.
The tweet was directed at Ms Soubry , and stated “Someone jo cox Anna sourby please”, making reference to the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox the week before the EU referendum.
The tweet misspelt her name, in what the MP considered to be deliberate. The most likely reason was to afford the evil coward a legal defence in the event of a prosecution so that they could rely on a technical argument that it was not the MP being referred to in the tweet.
Such a defence would have failed because it would be plainly obvious that the intended target of the tweet was Anna Soubry.
Ms Soubry responded by saying: “This is what has happened to our politics. Tolerance & free speech must prevail”, adding : Take it that wasn’t a spelling mistake. You’re a sad cowardly troll.”
Disturbing
The sick tweet is disturbing for obvious reasons, and Ms Soubry told BBC Radio Nottingham she was “very disturbed” by the post and had reported it to Nottinghamshire Police, who confirmed they have launched an investigation.
Life is precious, and individuals who are willing to compromise the special gift of life in the name of politics should be caged for life. They are a menace to society. If the brutal murder of Joe Cox didn’t touch such individuals, nothing will and society needs to be protected from such ill minded animals.
Ms Soubry confirmed that she reported both incidences to the police and her local inspector. “Somebody had rung the office on Wednesday and made a number of threats to harm me in the same way that Jo Cox was harmed… so we reported that,” she said.
“I reported it also to my local inspector… who has taken it seriously. Unfortunately the Parliamentary Authorities did not advance it in the way they should have done.
“I was tweeting about the Richmond by-election, and I happened to see this request that I should be ‘Jo Cox’d’, in other words murdered.
“I have reported that again to the police and the Parliamentary Authorities also saw it and got on to me but I’m afraid it wasn’t taken as seriously as it should have been, but it is now.”
The tweeter account used to send the tweet has been deleted, but police should be able to track them down otherwise there are security issues that require tweeter to ensure they can track down users.
