The Metropolitan police are taking far too long to release any information on their investigation of allegations of racism during Chelsea’s match against Manchester United.
Chelsea suspended four supporters from attending matches while they investigate allegations of racist abuse directed at Raheem Sterling. One supporter, who has been reported to police for shouting racist slurs at Sterling, has been interviewed by the club. The man is alleged to have called Sterling a “f****** black c***” from the Stamford Bridge terraces during Chelsea’s Premier League victory against Manchester City on Saturday. Sterling, 24, told the Metropolitan Police on Sunday night that he was racially abused, and their investigation into the incident continued on Monday, but on Thursday, the Met police told The Eye Of Media.Com that they had nothing whatsoever on the progress of the investigation.
Sterling claimed to have been racially abused on Saturday during Chelsea’s premiere league victory against Manchester City on Saturday. The professional Football Association condemned the increase in racial abuse, as Chelsea Football Club promised a through investigation into the claims by combing through football footage for evidence. The incident was the second alleged form of racism in the Premier League within a week, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a banana thrown at him by a Tottenham supporter during the North London Derby.
The Metropolitan Police told The Eye Of Media.Com that the investigation was not taking too long , but failed to explain why after nearly a week they have nothing to say to the press about the development of the case. Fingers were pointed at the press for negative or racist stories against Sterling, but the footballer has not always acted like a role model. In 2015, footage emerged of the Liverpool and England winger breathing in the gas nitrous oxide before passing out in front of his giggling mates. Not long after this, his Mercedes was found crashed with an empty can of laughing gas in it.On that occasion, he claimed he had lent his car to his friend, but that excuse simply couldn’t wash.
Birds of same feathers flock together, and the fact his unknown friend crashed his car, was a bad reflection on him. Ofcourse, his misdemeanours cannot justify racist abuse being hurled at him. Footage alleged to contain the racial abuse has been circulated online, but most disappointing is why it is taking the police so long to update the press and the public on their findings so far. It has been 5 days, yet the police still claim to have nothing substantive for the press on this. The delay appears to be poor and indefensible
