Police investigating a “brazen attack” in which a 28-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in 2019 by a stranger who attempted to rob him,  have issued CCTV  new appeal for information.

The 28-year-old victim had been walking when he was approached by a man , described as black and of stocky build, and who had his hair in short plaits. The man stabbed him multiple times as he demanded money from the man who was unyielding.

Officers  were on patrol in Midland Road, Leyton, when they were flagged down and told a man had been stabbed multiple times in the chest, hands and wrist by a man demanding money. Detectives believe the man was stabbed outside a house in Wesley Road, close to the junction with Leigh Road.

Cops are eager to catch the perpetrator of this crime and fear he could be subject several others to terrifying ordeals.   Worried residents of Leyton who have had to endure news of criminal activity in their area fear that attacks like this can be random and put them and their families at risk.

Outright robbery of this type is not uncommon in london, but the level of accompanying brutality is less common. Such violence usually occurs where there is a history between the attacker and the victim, and that history is sometimes through association.

The victim was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, and although he suffered serious injuries, he thankfully survived.

The  man is said to have picked up a brown leather holdall type bag and walked along Leigh Road in the direction of Abbots Park Road.

Cops have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the stabbing. Detective Constable Nicola Cross, of the Met’s North East Area CID, said: “This was a brazen attack on a residential street in broad daylight that left a man in hospital with serious injuries.

“I believe that anyone who knows this man pictured will be able to recognise him from the image we’re releasing today.

“If you are able to tell us who he is, or if seeing the footage makes you remember something you saw on that evening in June 2019, I would urge you to come forward.”
