By James Simons-
Khabi abrey suffering from mental health issues has admitted killing an Essex woman when he started a fire.
Troisi admitted charges of manslaughter and arson when he appeared before the old bailey, today, Wednesday.
30 year old, Khabi Abrey, 30, died after a blaze started by her neighbour Lillo Troisi, 48, on the ninth floor of the Grampian flats on the Balmoral estate in Salisbury Avenue, Westcliff, on May 7.
Pregnant
Miss Abrey was 32 weeks pregnant at the time and police found her unconscious in the communal hallway having fled from her flat.
She died two days later in hospital from the effects of smoke inhalation. Her unborn baby suffered a cardiac arrest.
Crazy Troisi had been set to stand trial on six charges, including murder, but prosecutors accepted his pleas because of the difficulty posed by proving murder.
Simon Spence, prosecuting told the court that Proving murder in a case such as this is always difficult. ”The arson charge is subsumed by the more serious charge of manslaughter”.
“The Crown takes the view that these pleas are acceptable.”
Mental Health
This view was because Troisi’s mental health issues make it questionable whether he set out to murder tragic Miss Abrey. Without a motive, murder is a very difficult thing to suggest or prove in a case like this. The sad thing is that this may just be a case of a man with mental health issues recklessly starting a fire without caring of the consequences. The other question is why a man with mental health issues was roaming the streets when he should be in a mental ward.
Judge Patricia McGowan told the court: “I agree that this is an appropriate course in this case.”
It was later stated in the hearing that Troisi could be locked up in a mental health hospital instead of prison.
However, Judge McGowan said further psychiatrist reports were needed before a decision could be reached. The prosecutor said a further psychiatrist report of its own to confirm the findings of the defense report or to take a different approach was necessary. It seems so sad and unfortunate that an innocent pregnant woman killed whilst sleeping at night will not get full justice just because her attacker was an idiotic man suffering with mental health issues.
Why this has not already been done is another question. Khabri was well known and loved in her community, a number of people proclaiming her unusually loving nature. Her death brought a number of neighbors in the community together, who held a vigil for her in front of the block of flats where she was killed.
The eye of media.com was the first media publication to publish the story of her death on the same day she died after we were tipped off by three of our avid readers in the area. The next morning all the national newspapers covered the story
Mental Troisi will be sentenced later this month, but there will relevant questions surrounding the mental health issues raised in court.
