Martin Markle told a television audience that Prince Harry and his daughter owe him, adding that he should be rewarded for what he has gone through . Mr. Markle told a Channel 5 documentary that his daughter promised to look after him during his senior years.
He said :
‘At this point, they owe me. The royals owe me. Harry owes me, Meghan owes me. What I’ve been through I should be rewarded for. My daughter told me that when I reach my senior years she’ll take care of me. I’m in my senior years now – it’s time to look after Daddy.’
In the moving documentary, Mr. Markle said he cried when he saw prince Charles walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding which he watched from television because he could not be present in person.
The retired Hollywood lighting director, who has never met his grandson son Archie, described his relationship with his daughter as ‘complicated’.
He insisted:
”To them I don’t exist and now Harry, whether he realises it or not, is part of my family and I’m part of his. We should be talking.’
He added: ‘He’s not 12 years old any more, he’s got no right to be this sensitive.’ In the long 90 mins documentary, mr. Markle expressed sadness that his daughter and her new husband Prince Harry have left the royal family, suggesting that they did it for money.
His comments will add to the tension between him and his estranged daughter whose broken relationship has been an open book both in the lead up to the wedding and after the wedding.
His comments come as friends of the couple spoke up for them against the press, stating that nobody has the right to criticise them. Today, Oprah Winfrey defended her pals by stating that the royal couple thought about it long and hard and had discussed the move with the royals for a while. She criticised suggestions from critics that the Queen was blindsided.
