Meghan Markle’s response to criticisms that she is exploiting her association to the royal family given their major fall out, has been deemed very weak.
A more comprehensive and fitting response was expected from the privately educated former U.S actress, who did not even touch the issue of her thriving off the royal family’s name, despite the strong disaffection that has resulted from the acrimony of the past couple of years.
The duchess of sussex(pictured) and her husband stepped away from royal duties in 2021, and were expected not to benefit from their association with the royal family.
More so following the profound allegations against the royals, amongst which was a racist insinuation that a senior member of the royal family had asked how dark the colour of their unborn child would be.
The claim sparked huge uproar in Britain and abroad, though Prince Harry would later describe the question as a reflection of ”unconscious bias”, rather than racism.
Much damage had been done by then with the statement diving the British public- many either running to her defense or bitterly against her for the statement.
Emotions have since been tense among the royal family, royalists and royal commentators, many insisting the couple completely distant themselves from the firm.
Supporters of the couple say it was necessary for them to reflect their views and speak up about troubling matters occurring within the Palace.
Meghan said in response to the multiple attacks that “attention to detail” and “creativity and care” of the designers, after critics pointed out the couple were told to drop use of HRH when they quit as working royals.
Responding to criticism, Meghan Markle said: “They’re not just designers; they are collaborators who elevate your ideas into visual identities. They’re a very special company. Plus they’re Canadian, so I’m a fan.” This response hardly addresses the issue at all.
Harry and Meghan named the site as ‘The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’, featuring a link back to their former, banned website and displaying Meghan’s personal coat of arms – which she was given upon her marriage back in 2018.
Pals of the royal household claim the move is a flagrant breach of the supposedly cast-iron assurances Harry and Meghan gave the late Queen when they acrimoniously quit as working royals in 2020, and comes perilously close to using their royal status for commercial gain.
Others described it as a breach of the agreement, ‘if not in letter, certainly in spirit'”.
Prince Harry arrived in Vancouver alongside Meghan to discuss next year’s infamous Invictus Games after a shock relaunch of their website from Archewell to Sussex.com, in honour of their royal roots.
