Meghan Markle told guest Mariah Carey she was never treated as a black woman until she met Prince Harry, as she discussed being bi-racial, and how she felt treated.
Markle’s comments can also potentially be seen as revelation that the Duchess Of Sussex for the first time saw herself as a black woman from the eyes of the world, having always perceived herself as strictly mixed race. Her comments in her latest interview how she feels she has been perceived and treated by brits in the Uk. The comments were a subtle attack on her perception of feeling racism most after she became a member of the royal family,
Many members o the British public disagree and say Ms Markle is a trouble maker and social climber as stated by her Archrival, Piers Morgan. Only prince Harry and Meghan Markle know their true feelings for each other.
The Duchess is seen by many as using the issue of race to conceal what others see as anger against the perception that she has become a destructive force in the royal family, all for her own allegedly selfish ambitions premediated the moment she met Prince Harry. There can be no denying she has suffered some racism, mainly from the faceless misfits of society, but there are many who mistrust her sincerity.
Outlook
Her claim to have only felt treated as a black woman after becoming Prince Harry’s girlfriend, reveals her outlook on the dynamics that shapes how she sees herself and how she believes others see her.
It is the first time Ms Markle had spoken about the conflict she felt between her mixed race heritage and her perception as a black woman after she married Prince Harry.
Meghan started by telling Carey, “You were so formative for me. Representation matters so much. But when you are a woman, and you don’t see a woman who looks like you somewhere in a position of power or influence, or even just on the screen—because we know how influential media is—you came onto the scene, I was like oh, my gosh. Someone… Someone kind of looks like me.”
Carey asked, “Did you feel like, I know that this person is, like I can tell she’s Black and white?”
“Yes, yeah. Yes. I could feel that,” Meghan said. “Yeah, even at that young age. And it’s so funny because I remember when I was young, I can’t put a number to it; I would imagine 12 or 13.”
“We don’t want a number. Because they’re going to try to do the calculations,” Carey said. “We don’t, we don’t, I don’t believe in numbers.”
Meghan went on to say, “I had read this article about Halle Berry, and they were asking her how she felt being treated as a mixed race woman in the world. And her response was her saying, ‘well, your experience through the world is how people view you.’ So she said because she was darker in color, she was being treated as a Black woman, not as a mixed woman. And I think for us, it’s very different because we’re light skinned. You’re not treated as a Black woman. You’re not treated as a white woman. You sort of fit in between.
I mean, if there’s any time in my life that it’s been more focused on my race, it’s only once I started dating my husband. Then I started to understand what it was like to be treated like a Black woman. Because up until then, I had been treated like a mixed woman. And things really shifted.”
“But, but that’s an interesting thing,” Carey said. “A mixed woman, because I always thought it should be okay to say I’m mixed. Like it should be okay to say that. But people want you to choose.
Meghan Markle went on to explain her reluctance to release photos of her child, Archiebold.
She says :’there’s literally a structure by which if you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the royal rota. Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the n-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?’. She was referring to the slew of racially offensive words used against her in the past, especially on social media platforms. There have been many offensive racial slurs charged at the Duchess on social media, but not by most members of the press.
Her critics would accuse her of turning the problem her many critics in the British public have against her which they believe have nothing to do with race, but weaknesses they consider bothersome. There are many people that perceive attacks against the Duchess Of Sussex to be race orientated, but many others who feel Meghan Markle is the problem.
On Monday, her comments caused uproar in some circles when the Duchess of Sussex said in a story published in The Cut that she’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off in the UK without tons of people snapping pictures.
Speaking about the habit of people wanting to take photos of her child during drop offs, she says: I have a problem with that,” Meghan. “That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”
Commentators have pointed out that children of senior royals are usually protected from press intrusion and William and Kate were able to drop off and collect Prince George and Princess Charlotte from their school in Battersea without any intrusive photographers.
