A 43-year-old mathematics teacher at a Redbridge school in Essex, has been indefinitely banned from teaching in England by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA).
During the hearing, it was disclosed that Taneja made explicit comments to the student, including stating, “you’re a very attractive girl.”
Unsettlingly, he added: “even in your school uniform I still find you attractive.”
The pupil, in her testimony, revealed Taneja’s acknowledgment of the gravity of his actions, expressing concern over potential repercussions, saying, “you’re a kid – this could end my career. I don’t want to end up in newspapers and sh*t.”
Taneja also reportedly told the pupil, you’re a kid – this could end my career’. I don’t want to end up in newspapers and sh*t”, according to a report. Ironically, he ended in the papers, and it has ended his career.
The inappropriate behavior towards a female pupil, reinforces the imperative need for maintaining the sanctity of teacher-student relationships.
A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) misconduct panel decided that Mr Taneja had abused his position of trust as a teacher to pursue a future sexual relationship with the pupil.
It subsequently decided that he should be banned from teaching in England indefinitely.
At a misconduct hearing last month, the panel also found it to be true that he tried to conceal his communications with the pupil.
In a candid admission during the hearing, Taneja revealed that he obtained the pupil’s phone number, attempted to call her, and suggested meeting in the park—all under the guise of offering additional tuition.
However, the TRA panel found Taneja’s explanation implausible and unsupported by evidence, emphasizing the unnecessary isolation of the student for such an academic proposition.
He said that he did this because he was offering her tuition.
But he denied making other sexually motivated comments.
Beal High School was contacted to comment on the matter.
