A man who beat and killed his girlfriend in her own home has pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the Old Bailey today
Hussein Abu, 37, of Whitechapel Road, Whitechapel, accepted responsibility for the death of 26yearold Sannah Javed at her flat in Green Lane, Ilford, in December 2014
The court heard that at the time of her death, the deceased lady been in a violent relationship with Abu for a number of years. Domestic altercations had become the norm in their relationships. Like many other relationships, Javed did not leave the relationship before it was too late. They eventually separated, but like many controlling men, Hussein did not give up on her.
As is the sad tale of many violent relationships that end up fatally, police officers were called to her address after the London Ambulance Service was initially called to attend to a collapsed female. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the violent danger man at the address in an agitated state. The killer changed his story twice, initially claiming that Sannah had collapsed while sitting on her bed, the kind of concotion offered by desparate men who realise they are in hot water .
The poor girl was rushed to King George Hospital in Goodmayes, but was pronounced dead at 12.32am, just after midnight. A post mortem conducted three days later, showed Sannah to have sustained a number of internal and external injuries.
The injuries were attributed to assault by a third party by Home Office athologist Dr Ashley Fegan-Earl concluded that some of these injuries were in keeping with a third party assault He was arrested and charged the next day. The killer’s plea to manslaughter came only when he realised there was no way out, so he considered manslaughter the smarter option to avoid a murder conviction.
This case is another grim reminder of why women in violent relationships should leave sooner rather than later and cut all ties. Violent men that attack women can potentially eventually kill. The family of the dead girl were visibly distraught throughout the final hearing and declined all requests to speak to journalists.
Detective chief inspector Tim Duffield, of the homicide and serious crime command, said: “The police investigation exposed Hussein Abu as a violent and controlling man, a person who, after attacking his partner, was prepared to lie in an effort to escape justice. “Abu had ample opportunity to admit his guilt earlier but chose to put Sannah’s family through the further ordeal of a criminal trial. I can only hope today’s outcome helps her family begin to come to terms with their loss.”
Abu will be sentenced at the Old Bailey tomorrow.
