Majority Of Unemployed UK Parents Can’t Write

By Gavin Mackintosh And James Simons-

A vast majority of UK parents can’t write a story or a letter, the eye of media.com can reveal.

A sample of unemployed individuals interviews from job centres in Stratford, Barking, Southend On Sea, Basildon, and Enfield, revealed that over 75 percent of unemployed people cannot write a structured letter.

Over 50 percent of those interviewed admitted being incapable of writing a letter , whilst 25 percent of those who claimed to be able to write a letter proved absolutely incompetent .

Many unemployed youngsters and parents over the age of 19 proved incapable of writing a decent and structured letter. Spelling errors were common among them .

The eye of media.com had to pay 5 pounds to 10 people from each of the areas where our research was conducted, in order to actually obtain examples of their ability to write a letter.

COMPLAINT

We asked them to write a complaint letter and also write a letter applying for jobs and selling their skills . About 80 percent of those spoken to admitted obtaining help to write CV’ ‘ s for jobs applications, and almost all admitted not having a cover letter on their applications. 60 percent of those interviewed claimed to have children.

The shocking and disappointing finding comes after research conducted over a six weeks period. 60 percent of all those interviewed said did not have G.C.S.E’s, whilst 40 percent of them claimed to have qualifications equivalent or above G.C.S.E level.

IMPROVEMENT

Our research calls for job centres to do more to examine those signing on and direct them towards efficient training to improve in this respect. The eye of media.com will be collaborating with the UK government to urge job centres to do more to train unemployed members of the public to develop their basic skills if written communication to improve their chances of finding meaningful work.
