A prosecutor who participated in the Madeleine McCann documentary says he believes the disappearance ‘was burglary gone wrong’
Speaking to The ITV documentary Madeleine McCann: The Hunt For The Prime Suspect, Hans Christian Wolters- the Public Prosecutor for Braunschweig, one of the leading German investigators involved in the case argued that her kidnapper may have grabbed her in a spur of the moment decision.
Convicted German paedophile Christian Brueckner, is the main suspect in Maddie’s disappearance, and is also being investigated for the disappearance of another 7 year old child. Dutch police are now investigating the paedophile over the disappearance of a seven-year-old boy who vanished from a beach in the Netherlands.
Jair Soares went missing when he went to buy chips near the town of Monster in the South Holland province of the country on August 4 1995.
Striking similarities similarities about how they both vanished was first raised last month and now it has been confirmed that the dossier has been prepared and handed to German detectives
Speaking on the documentary, Walters said Brueckner had a record of breaking into holiday apartments in and around Praia da Luz, the Portuguese resort where Maddie, three, was staying with her family when she went missing.
The prosecutor added that he may have taken the child on a whim after breaking into her apartment, intending to simply rob the room.
He added that Brueckner’s profile, which included possession of child pornography and indecent exposure, made him certain he was the one who had taken Madeleine.

Echoing his view on the documentary was that of former Brit detective Dr Graham Hill. He said in his experience, most child abductors didn’t set out to kidnap a child on the day they committed their crimes. More often, it was a spur of the moment decision, he added.
The documentary also revealed how in 2017, police in Germany received a call from someone in a bar who had overheard a man, believed to be Brueckner, saying something which suggested he knew what had happened to the child
Brueckner denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance, and also appealing his conviction for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005.
He had crept into her apartment after discovering her door was unlocked. Wolters added that time is running out to find out exactly what happened in Praia da Luz in 2007.
