Calls for U.S senator, Lindsey Graham to resign have been trending on twitter after he urged the president’s son to plead the fifth amendment.
Critics of the senator have called for the senator’s head after he urged Trump Jr. to refuse to ignore a congressional subpoenas from the Senate Intelligence Committee. The committee subpoenaed Trump Jr. to testify about his communication with Russian officials.
Worrying questions about the President’s son’s knowledge or involvement with Russia before or during the hot 2016 U.S elections emerged during the Michael Cohen hearings. Trump Jr. had previously told the Judiciary Committee he was barely aware of the Trump Tower Moscow project. Cohen refuted this, saying that he had briefed both Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. about the project on multiple occasions.
Thousands of tweets and Facebook posts created a trending hashtag calling for Graham’s resignation Tuesday, accusing him of having strong alliances to Russian oil money, and reacting strongly to his suggestion for the U.S president to evade the subpoena.
“If I were Donald Trump Jr.’s lawyer, I would tell him you don’t need to go back into this environment anymore,” Graham said on Sunday Morning . His comments were aimed at bypassing the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee’s attempts to subpoena Trump Jr. for additional testimony over efforts to build a Trump Tower in Russia.

“You’ve been there for hours and hours, and nothing being alleged here changes the outcome of the Mueller investigation. I would call it a day,” Graham added, appearing to advise Trump Jr. personally on the law.
President Trump has been cleared by the Mueller report over allegations of corruption involving Russia and interference into the 2016 U.S elections, but uproar over the alleged affair has not completely ceased in American political circles.
The official Twitter account for Democratic Coalition- an anti-Trump super PAC against Republican officials and candidates- have led the strong calls for Graham to resign following the comments.
