Lisa Bonet has claimed Bill Cosby gave off a “sinister, shadow energy” during her days of working with him on “The Cosby Show” and “A Different World.”
Speaking in an interview featured on the cover of Net-a-Porter, Bonet spoke for the first time about the rash of sexual assault allegations that have been levelled at Cosby.
While claiming that she had no firsthand knowledge of Cosby’s alleged misconduct, she often sensed that something was amiss.
“There was just energy. And that type of sinister, shadow energy cannot be concealed,” she said.
When asked if she sensed a “darkness” around her former TV father, she replied: “Always.”
“If I had anything more to reveal then it would have happened a long time ago,” she said. “That’s my nature. The truth will set you free.”
Cosby is schedulled to return to court next month for a retrial on charges that he drugged and sexually assaulted Andrea Constand in 2004. Constand is one of the dozens of women who have accused Cosby of an extended pattern of sexual misconduct.
When asked about Cosby’s legal situation, Bonet said, “I don’t need to say, ‘I told you so.’ I just leave all that to karma and justice and what will be.”
Bonet, a native of San Francisco, began her run as Denise Huxtable at the age of 16. As the Net-a-Porter piece recalls, she was branded a rebel who routinely tested Cosby’s patience. She showed up late on set and posed topless in “Interview” magazine, against his wishes. And Cosby famously opposed her role in the film “Angel Heart,” in which she had a nude sex scene.
