A learning disabilities charity has received £400k donation in response to a coronavirus appeal.
Learning disabilities charity Mencap received the huge donation in response to its coronavirus appeal.
The charity said the donation from Advent International, a private equity firm, will help it provide support for people with learning disabilities during the pandemic and empower people to rebuild their lives after the crisis.
Charities in the Uk, especially those for people with learning disabilities have faced enormous pressures that have impacted people with learning disability severely. with great opportunities to build on the community spirit witnessed in the past few months.
After closing 32 charity shops, Mencap have also topped up the income of over 530 staff,
Edel Harris, chief executive of Mencap, said: “We are incredibly grateful for Advent International’s generous donation to our urgent appeal and our supported employment programme. Our extraordinary support workers and helpline team are working extremely hard to support the 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK and their families.
“They will need our support not just today but for many years to come. That’s why we are delighted that Advent International has donated to our supported employment programme, which will help empower more people with a learning disability to build independent lives by supporting them into paid work. We look forward to working with Advent International to help more people with a learning disability achieve their dreams.”
Adding to Harris’s comments, James Brocklebank, a managing partner at Advent International, said: “The work Mencap is doing to support the lives of the 1.5 million people in the UK who have a learning disability is invaluable, particularly during this exceptionally challenging time. We are incredibly proud to support Mencap and specifically the employment project, which has the potential to empower so many people and change their lives for the better.”
