LA Residents Woken By Earthquake

By Vince Godwin-

At 9.45 am (GMT) LA residents were shaken by a magnitude 3.2 earthquake

According to the United States Geological Survey, the tremor took place at 1.15 am local time, it was at a depth of 7.5 miles (12km), with its epicenter in the west Athens area.

Residents took to Twitter to report the tremors, reporting that they could feel the ground shake and that they were awoken by the quake:

“That felt nasty”, wrote one. “Especially because it was near my area”.

Another said, “I jumped out of bed and woke everyone up just in case.”

“Felt quite a strong shake in downtown LA,” tweeted another.

LA Was previously devastated by an earthquake of deadly magnitude 6.7 back in January of 1994

in 2008 a survey was released by the US Geological Survey it reported that there was a greater than 99 percent chance of an even stronger one happening in California within the next 30 years, which sits on the San Andreas fault. The report warned that 1,800 people could be killed, injure 53,000, and cause over $214bn (£162bn) in damage.

There have been no reports of any damage in today’s quake but is a reminder that the concerns of the US Geological Survey must be listened to, and today’s quakes raise fears of a more serious quake.
