The government announced the plans in the borough where one in every three people are unemployed, and generally, lack the skills to gain meaningful employment.
The sudden news has shocked Brent Council, who have written to the Minister if the Department of Health and pensions, challenging the decision. The government has recently been reforming the welfare system, and this recent move appears designed to compel unemployed people in the borough to develop their skills.
Violence is rife Kilburn and Willesden, many of the youngsters residing there are believed to have very limited skills.Those who object to the closure plans say it will force unemployed residents to have to travel out to another jobcentre, increasing the chances of rival groups coming into contact with each other.
There are whispers that the plans to shut down both Kilburn and Willesden jobcentre us just the beginning of a wider movement online of welfare benefit application and overall operation. However, it may all be for the better, if it forces unemployed people to develop their skills.
