In an article for the paper published on Friday, Clarkson wrote that he loathed Meghan “on a cellular level”, adding that he was “dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her”.
He added: “Everyone who’s my age thinks the same way.”
The comments drew widespread shock and condemnation. The comedian John Bishop tweeted that the remarks were a “blatant appeal to incite humiliation and violence on a woman”.
His latest rant went well below the belt and has sparked uproar in many circles.
“I want to make it very clear that I stand against everything that my dad wrote about Meghan Markle and I remain standing in support of those targeted with online hatred.”
Clarkson, whose continued success in the media and in broadcasting has been based on his name and fortune, was exposed as a racist years ago after being caught uttering racist words behind a rhyme.
The presenter Carol Vorderman tweeted: “NO, Jeremy Clarkson. Not on any level, in any circumstance, is it OK to write this stuff about any woman and absolutely NO to ‘everyone who’s my age thinks the same’.”
The author Philip Pullman wrote: “That Jeremy Clarkson can write things like that, and publish them unashamed, tells us all we need to know about the way Rupert Murdoch has poisoned and rotted our public life.”
Clarkson’s daughter Emily, who hosts the Should I Delete That? podcast, criticised his father on an Instagram post that said: “I want to make it very clear that I stand against everything my dad said about Meghan Markle and I remain standing in support of those who are targeted with online hatred.”
The comedian Dom Joly said he was “literally gobsmacked” at Clarkson’s “utterly vile and disgusting comments”. He added: “What is it about these type of men that triggers them so?”
His fellow comic Jason Manford tweeted a photo of an excerpt from the article with the caption: “If you can defend Clarkson in this, then please don’t reply to me, just unfollow and block and move on. We are never going to agree.”
British social activist and chief executive of the Five Foundation, Nimco Ali, wrote: “A young Black woman opens up about her struggle with suicidal thoughts as a result of the abuse she got from the media, and this is how some men in the media react. This is absolutely horrific.
“I want to make it very clear that I stand against everything that my dad wrote about Meghan Markle and I remain standing in support of those targeted with online hatred.”
Emotion
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stirred emotion, following their complaint about their treatment by the British press in their new Netflix documentary series, Harry & Meghan.
Prince Harry accused the royal family of failing to intervene when his wife was subjected to a relentless media attack, and accused his family of lying to protect his brother Prince William, but not willing to tell the truth to protect him.
He also accused his brother’s press team or selling false stories to the press and said his father had lied .
He added that it was clear that some headlines attacking Meghan had racist undertones, and that his wife was condemned by the press for the same things Kate Middleton was praised for.
He also said he believes Meghan suffered a miscarriage due to the stress caused by the Mail on Sunday publishing a private letter she sent to her father.

Clarkson’s history of racism is so bad, it is surprising any newspaper would allow him write an article about a woman around whom racial issues is highly charged.
The television presenter was once sued by his staff for racism and has a history of racist remarks.
His continued success in the media and in broadcasting provides confirmation of the extent to which status and fortune often influences big bosses to overlook serious character defects in celebrities, exposing their own poor judgements and character flaws in the process.
In 2015, he apologised after footage appearing to feature him using a racist slur which was not broadcast was sent a newspaper.
The big surprise was the fact The Sun Newspaper published the disgraceful article.
