A team of military investigators arrived in British Columbia on Monday to commence the searching for answers into Sunday’s deadly Snowbirds jet crash, The Eye Of Media.Com has heard.
The eight-member flight investigation team had been deployed from Ottawa to Kamloops, where one of the Snowbirds’ Tutor jets crashed shortly after takeoff. The Snowbirds had been in the midst of a cross-country tour aimed at boosting morale during the Covid-19 pandemic.
One Canadian Armed Forces member, Captain Jennifer Casey was tragically killed while another, Captain Richard MacDougall, who was piloting the aircraft, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. Casey was a well respected spokesperson for the team.
Widely known as 431 Air Demonstration Squadron (French: 431e escadron de démonstration aérienne), are the military aerobatics or air show flight demonstration team of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The Snowbirds’ official purpose was to “demonstrate the skill, professionalism, and teamwork of Canadian Forces personnel”.[2] The Snowbirds are the first Canadian air demonstration team to be designated as a squadron
Capt. Jennifer Casey, a public affairs officer for the famed Canadian air acrobatics team known as the Snowbirds was killed on Sunday when their doomed plane dropped her and a pilot seconds before it slammed into the front yard of a home in Kamloops, British Columbia.
The pilot, Capt. Richard MacDougall, experienced serious but not life-threatening injuries, but survived the crash.
“Our thoughts are with the families of Captain Casey and Captain MacDougall, as well as the entire Canadian Forces Snowbirds team, as they grieve this terrible loss,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement on Sunday. “I would also like to thank the emergency personnel in Kamloops who responded so quickly to this tragic incident.”
The Snowbirds, known for their nine-jet formation, have been on tour across Canada to boost morale during the coronavirus pandemic in an effort named “Operation Inspiration.”
“For the past two weeks, the Snowbirds have been flying across the country to lift up Canadians during these difficult times,” Trudeau said. “Every day, they represent the very best of Canada and demonstrate excellence through incredible skill and dedication.”
