Increase In Corona Cases Is Simply Evidence Of Expanded Tests

A rise in  coronavirus positive tests in the Uk is evidence of more testing taking place, and should not be used to raise any more alarm than necessary.

The UK’s weekly rate of new coronavirus cases rose above 20 per 100,000 people – the rate at which it considers imposing quarantine measures on people arriving from abroad.

The UK’s weekly rate of new coronavirus cases rose above 20 per 100,000 people . PHE England revealed 6,000 new cases in the past 48  hours.

England’s deputy chief medic,  Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, today described the finding as a “great concern” and a sign that people have relaxed too much. However, since the test and tracing system, there has been a lot more testing since the lockdown was eased in May than during the lockdown.

Community testing has also expanded, whereas  access was formerly limited to symptomatic patients and key workers. Increased testing was inevitably going to reveal more positive cases of the coronavirus.

BBC health corespondent, Nick Triggle confirmed that the fact we have close to 3,000 positive cases of the coronavirus is due to the availability of mass testing in positive coronavirus testing.

Plenty of mixing against social distancing rules have taken place since the lockdown was eased, but there is no evidence to show how many of those who have tested positive already had the virus before they were tested

The UK’s weekly rate of new coronavirus cases rose above 20 per 100,000 people – the rate at which it considers imposing quarantine measures on people arriving from abroad.

Prof Van-Tam blamed young people are behind the rise in cases, saying: “There is a rise in all age groups, but it is really, really much more marked in the 17-21 years age group than any other.”

Speaking about all age groups he said: “It is clear that the level of compliance with the advice and the rules that have been set is very variable indeed.”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said the rise in cases is mainly among younger people who are not following social distancing rules. He said it was largely under-25s, and especially those between the ages of 17 and 21.He added that the UK had already secured “30 million doses” with AstraZeneca and that the country would “most likely” secure a vaccine “in the first few months of next year”

Mr Hancock told LBC radio: “The message is that even though you are at lower risk of dying of COVID, if you are of that age, you can still have really serious symptoms and consequences. Also you can infect other people.”
