By Gabriel Princewill-
The Eye Of Media was taken off google by an unscrupulous homeless man, once affiliated with our team, and who registered the site in his google mail account when setting up our google ads five years ago when he still had accommodation.
Vince Godwin, (pictured)a homeless man originally from Grays Essex, who had used his personal gmail google account when setting up google ads for this organisation late in 2015- some three years after we were established- crookedly took our site off google last week.
The 39 year old conducted his dodgy deed after he discovered we were about to expose him for claiming to be a journalist without performing the required function of actually writing articles.
Mr Godwin argued that because the google account belonged to him he is entitled to close it at any time of his choosing. It experts say he appears to have specifically taken steps to remove the site from google. He told a member of the team in an email communication before his actions that ”I have a right to be forgotten from google”, without revealing his plans.
His comments revealed his intentions of preventing the article from having his name on google.
Tension
Tension with mr.Godwin had been intermittent over the past few years, as he occasionally battled with anxiety and other issues in his personal life, and struggled to wake up at reasonable times. His erratic sleeping times which he once put down to insomnia became much better in the past year.
Mr.Godwin was a useful player in many other ways, sometimes contributing fresh ideas useful in scrutinising organisations or proposing positive changes to the team for consideration.
Vince Godwin was a self taught developer who operated in both the capacity of a developer and a researcher of ufos, spending hours watching youtube which he wrote about the latter on a few occasions after comprehensive examination of ufo footage and ufo scholars about extra terrestrial entities. He was overly enthusiastic about topics related to aliens, highlighting news for coverage to other team members in the first year of his association with us.
Title
He adopted the professional title of a journalist through his association with our organisation in a similar way some other team members have done, but was never officially registered as one nor developed any level of consistency to properly earn that title.
Our organisation has given a number of people without a journalistic background the training and opportunity to develop those skills and have a voice in their society and world. However, all writers are required to perform the function of a journalist to be true to their claim.
Contract
In Mr Godwin’s case, he never prepared to fulfil the proper function. of a journalist, yet enjoyed the associated title thereof. In a nutshell, his claim was spurious and had to be axed.
Mr Godwin was offered a generous contract to write four articles for £2,000 a month, and also participate in social media sharing. He had expressed an interest in reporting about the homeless after losing his accommodation following a row with his former landlady. He ended up on the streets where he would experience first hand operations of homeless charities, and highlight flaws that require recommendations for improvement.
He quickly highlighted observed flaws in the system, raising them for examination . One other team member who also took an interest in that area, though not homeless himself, conducted various research which he often wrote about and submitted for publication. Mr.Godwin was different and seemingly too lazy to focus on the profession he purported to be a part of.
Mr.Godwin would talk the talk, but not deliver in writing.Notwithstanding, his association with journalism, and the flexibility to associate himself with our organisation, afforded him more leverage than would otherwise be the case among a couple of homeless charities in the Southend area.
Criticism
One of Mr Godwin’s shortcoming was a high sensitivity to criticism while being one prepared to deliver criticism against others. Mr Godwin, who suffers from acute anxiety, irrationally rebuffed an attractive offer, stating he was too committed to helping getting others off the street and presenting them to charities to accommodate them.
He had initially agreed to write articles, later raising the need for assistance with a lap top to do so.
However, after being provided the requested assistance, and obtaining the laptop, he never wrote a single article about the homelessness or any other topic, only verbally communicated his observations. He was told he must write articles to justify his claim as a journalist or be stripped of the claim. Laziness for the task was the only plausible explanation.
Breaking Point
The breaking point arrived when he refused to correspond with a female member of the team in alternating the twitter account, access to which they both shared. He wanted to be in charge of its operation . Mr.Godwin also exhibited an intolerable level of rudeness when challenged about his inadequate commitment to the profession he purported to be a part of, forcing our hands to expel him form our association.
Prohibition
Consequently, he was told we would be severing all ties with him, and prohibited him from attaching the name of the eye of media to his facebook profile account, or the claim to be a journalist.
The order for him to remove all affiliation with The Eye Of Media from his facebook profile must have been too much for what seems to have been an ego built on a title he was not prepared to live up to.
After internal discussions, it was agreed he should be exposed on our site. Within 24 hours of informing him, he plugged the site off google.
Incensed
Incensed by the decision, mr Godwin who registered the company’s google account in his name, closed his account, but IT experts have speculated that he went further to take extra steps to pull the site off google. The Eye Of Media has been on google since 2012 when it was created. Mr Godwin arrived on the scene in 2015.
The order was given because of continued defiance of authority, and his incompetence to follow instructions. Compounding this was a volatile temperament, believed to be influenced by him sometimes not receiving his medication.
The unsavoury character who has areasonable degree of skill in IT, and a bit of a knack for cutting edge stories, was poor at maintaining timely communication for considerable periods of time, though this fluctuated in the past 6 months.
Mr Godwin helps get homeless people off the street into charities while being homeless himself, but has not been made an official volunteer for any of the charities. He would need to be in permanent accommodation first before he can be considered to be an official volunteer, yet strangely acts in that capacity while residing in accommodation provided by rough sleepers.
Representatives of one of the charities he assists expressed surprise to The Eye Of Media when they heard he had turned down an attractive income under what appears to be a pretext to help the homeless without remuneration.
Empty Claim
When mr.Godwin was informed of plans to write this article, he several times said he would get a solicitor or advocate to speak to us on his behalf, but this never materialised. Our automatic deduction is that this is because no professional can present a defensible argument on his behalf, and none has attempted to do so.
We have resubmitted our site to google and understand it could take a while given backlogs. However, it hasn’t stopped many of our subscribers and readers from keeping abreast with developments on our site.
Mr.Godwin’s actions provides a valuable lesson for organisations who deal with people like himself to proceed with extra caution and safeguard themselves from individuals like him. It is a lesson for us too.
Mr. Godwin was approached for comment in relation to this article, but did not respond,
