A petition by Hollyoaks actress Steph Davis(pictured) which has gained 60,000 signatures for greater protection of privacy and more scrutiny on the legitimacy of sources of the press in the wake of the suicide of Caroline Flack is baseless.
The campaign dubbed ‘Caroline’s Law’ fails to acknowledge that the sad death of the television presenter had nothing to do with the media but everything to do with the mental health of Caroline Flack.
Flack who had been battling anxiety and depression killed herself after receiving news that the prosecution was going to press ahead with a prosecution against her, despite her boyfriend’s lack of co-operation with the case.
Flack had been been on antidepressants in her battle with mental health issues and killed herself after she learnt of the Crown Prosecution’s decision to press ahead with charges against her in an assault case that could have potentially seen her jailed. The idea that her suicide was caused by the media is ridiculous because of the timing of her regrettable suicide.
The fear of the case being publicised at every stage of the trial would have tormented her poor mind, like her friends claim. Putting the blame on the media gives paints a false picture of what actually killed Caroline Flack.
Posting the video on Instagram, Ms Davis wrote: “I’ll fight this all the way. All the way. We should be sticking together and be kind and helping each other with our struggles!
“Not pointing the finger and hanging people out to dry!!!!! What’s wrong with the world!
“Love you Caroline, keep replaying your voice notes to hear your voice and it’s breaking me how broken you were. Devastated.
“I NEED YOU TO ALL COME TOGETHER AND STAND BY ME WHILE WE FIGHT THIS. We WILL make a difference !!”
In a statement on Saturday night, ITV said: “Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.
“Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.
Our prayers go to her family and friends.
