Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision not to stop in the UK during their trip the Netherlands has nothing to do with security, but more to do with their issues with the rest of the royal family, and the recent confirmation of Camilla as future Consort, according to a royal expert.
A combination of issues have contributed to Prince Harry’s reason of avoiding visiting the Uk, which are unconnected to his stated reasons of security issues, according to royal expert, Robert Jobson.
Harry is currently locked in a legal battle with the UK government over a decision to downgrade his security.
According to Jobson, Harry’s absence from the UK but willingness to travel to The Hague has “nothing to do with safety, but him feeling wanted” . Johnson plausibly adds that the prince’s upcoming tell-all memoir is playing a large part in this.
The decision to skip a visit to Britain is also associated with the frosty relationship with the Duchess Of Cornwall, who was recently confirmed as the future Queen Consort last February. Missing an opportunity to visit the Queen on the same week as her 96th birthday makes it too obvious that the Duke and Duchess Of Sussex have other motives for skipping a visit to the Uk
Jobson told the Mirror: “In the Hague he will be feted. His brothers and sisters in arms, past and present, rightly praise the Afghanistan veteran for giving back to the armed forces and not forgetting them.
“Back in the UK, particularly with his own family, his pending book means he is not cut the same slack.
“His tome is likely to tackle his tricky relationship with the Duchess of Cornwall, (Camilla Parker)who was confirmed as the future Queen Consort in February by our Queen and is probably the real reason he is staying away.
“Can you imagine how excruciating it would be over dinner if somebody was to ask what’s in the soon to be published Random House book about them?”
Jobson added: “I am a big fan of the Invictus Games, and all Harry has achieved with it. I reported on it in London and Australia where it went down a storm.
“The international competition – taking place from April 16 to 22 – inspires the rehabilitation of injured or sick military personnel and veterans from across the globe, by giving them the challenge of competing in sporting events like the Paralympics.
“Now, the question is will he pop over to Britain to wish his grandmother, the Queen, a happy 96th birthday on April 21?
“The reality is it is highly unlikely, given the schism he has caused in the family.
“Harry also brought a legal challenge against the UK Home Office after being told he would no longer be given the ‘same degree’ of personal protective security when visiting from the US, despite offering to pay for it himself.
“The royal, who now lives at Montecito, California, with Meghan, 40, and their children Archie, and Lilibet, claimed he wanted to bring them to visit from across the Atlantic, but ‘does not feel safe’ when visiting under the current security arrangements. Surely, this is just another excuse?
The Duke and Duchess Of Sussex are clearly unhappy with the Uk for several reasons of their own, and may feel uncomfortable enough to include Britain in their journey.
The Duchess Of Cornwall’s recent confirmation as future Queen Consort could easily be an issue about which he feels very sore, especially if as expected the decision was made without any discussion with him, in light of the painful history with his late mother, Princess Diana. His brother, Prince William appears to have come to terms with the future appointment of the Camilla Parker, but as Harry has said before, he and his brother and on two different paths.
It has also emerged that Harry and Meghan will not get an audience with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima during their stay in the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, but will have to instead spend the night at a hotel in The Hague.
The Dutch royal family often hosts foreign royals, but may have decided otherwise in the case of the Sussexes because the couple have stepped back from the royal duties, and therefore considered not part of the royal family.
The Duchess of Sussex will join her husband in The Hague for four days despite security experts warning that the sport event is a potential terrorist target because of its military links and the number of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans attending including the Duke of Sussex himself.
