Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been attacked by a former Mp for demonstrating double standards in their campaign against excess carbon emissions.
Former Mp Norman Baker launched the attack after the couple were spotted in Los Angeles getting into a gas-guzzling SUV dubbed ‘as far from environmentally-friendly as you can get’ because it only does 14 miles per gallon.
Baker claims the Sussexes create 215 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year – compared with the UK average of 8.3 tonnes for the average Briton – meaning almost 11,000 trees would need to be planted annually to offset their CO2 emissions.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of double standards by encouraging people to cut their carbon footprint to save the planet – while regularly using private jets themselves.
The royal couple faced widespread criticism after using four private jets in the space of just 11 days last summer.
He told The Sun: ‘The only thing green about Prince Harry are his wellies. The self-appointed eco-warrior, who likes to lecture everybody else on climate change, is in the top one per cent of people on the planet for carbon emissions. He should cut the carbon and, if not, at least cut the cr*p’
Former MP Norman Baker studied their carbon footprint over a year in order to expose their double standards. He revealed that the couple enjoyed 53 international flights in the year to January 2020 – 18 were in private jets producing up to 20 times more CO2 than commercial flights.
Their Cadillac SUV runs on 14 miles per gallon compared to average new UK car at 48mpg. The use of private jets, SUV cars and the eight-bed mansion they are currently living in likely shoot up Meghan and Harry’s carbon footprint, Mr Baker said.
Controversial
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been controversial figures in the Uk, loved and despised by many for different reasons. Critics of Meghan Markle blame her for the split of the couple from the royal family and see her as an outsider who came in on a mission to change the established pattern of affairs in the royal family.
Her supporters see her as a victim of media oppression and racism. The Dutchess Of Sussex has attracted plenty of interest from the press ever since her marriage to Prince Harry, with the divisions in her family adding further to the attention from the press.
The couple recently took the Uk Associated press and the Daily Mail to court over the revelation of a private handwritten letter she sent to her estranged father. Court papers reveal that she felt “unprotected” by the royal family from claims made in the UK tabloid press against her while she was pregnant.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are living in California and have assumed a more activist role, supporting the Black Lives Matter movement as well as gender equality. They have also set up a none nonprofit organisation, Archewell, will champion once it has been launched.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently spoke about the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement following huge protests over Floyd’s killing . Prince Harry at the time said: ”our generation and the ones before us haven’t done enough to right the wrongs of the past”.
Meghan Markle recently urged women to challenge leaders and unsettle them, in a bid to empower women.
The attack from Baker suggests he is not impressed with The Sussexes and feels they are not practising all they preach.
