Georgia election officials are facing a wave of death threats and intimidation from Trump supporters against public officials in the state, it has been claimed.
Officials claim to have been subjected to worrying threats including the seeming tracking of individuals associated with the elections.
“Someone is going to get shot, someone is going to get killed. And it’s not right,” Republican election official, Gabriel Sterling(pictured) said in response to wide ongoing claims of election fraud spread by Trump’s team and associates.
Elena parent, a democratic Senate in Georgia confirmed to The Eye Of Media.Com that a number of threats communicated via social media has been unnerving a lot of Georgia officials who have only been doing their job. Connected to us through a Guardian journalist, Parent said:
The threats have been delivered through several means. “They have been communicated through chat-boards, by email, in comments on my Facebook and Instagram pages, on the phone. They ran the gamut from basic insults to ‘We are watching you, you have kids, we are coming to your house.’’ It was surreal, you know, I’m not someone to ever be bullied or intimidated into being silent”, she said.
Threats of sexual violence and death threats against her have been the most frightening aspect. Her home address was plastered all over the internet, leading to an elevation of state police patrols around her accommodation. Although Parent’s identification is known to her intimidators, the idea of us publishing a photograph of her for this article was rejected. ”It could worsen matters” she said, and make ehr more visible.
The attacks by Trump against the Georgia governor, Brian Kemp, is said to be most responsible for inflaming tensions and attracting far right attacks.
Brad Raffensperger, the Republican secretary of state who on Monday recertified the results after three separate counts all showed Biden the victor by about 12,000 votes, is also suffering serious intimidation. He has had caravans of armed “Stop the Steal” militants driving past his house.
Its leader, Chris Hill, has posted videos on YouTube showing him participating in caravans of agitated Trump supporters driving past Raffensperger’s house and the governor’s mansion.
In one video, Hill calls Raffensperger “Mr Ratsperger” and says: “We are going to go over there and let him know he can hear us. There’s going to be hell to pay. There’s a lot of patriots out here feeling revolutionary, and I’m one of them. Guns up!”
Raffensperger and Sterling, both of whom are alarmed by the threats, have police protection at their homes, and the FBI is investigating. But it’s not just prominent officials who are in danger.
In another instance, a contractor for a private company had a noose strung outside his door and was threatened with being hanged for treason on the back of a QAnon conspiracy theory enabled by Trump.
Elected officials in Michigan have also complained of frightening threats sparked by baseless election fraud claims.
Armed protesters showed up at the home of Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and a House Representative received death threats.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer tweeted Sunday night, “Threats against our elected officials, no matter their party, are dangerous and unacceptable. This must stop.”
On Saturday, a video went viral on social media showing armed protesters gathering outside of Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, making death threats and yelling “stop the steal” ,as she was putting up Christmas decorations with her son. Mitchigan State and Detroit Police were called to the scene.
