A man arrested in connection with a burglary in Belfast who managed to escape from police after being handcuffed has been caught and arrested, The Eye Of Media.Com has heard.
The man escaped from Belfast police on Saturday September 9, following the report of a burglary in the Falls Road area, but “absconded from police custody” a short time later.
In a marked contrast from the rest of the UK, Belfast police told this publication that it does not provide names of those arrested or charged for offences as part of its common practise.
However, it is yet to be established how the unnamed man managed to escape from police officers apprehending him
Belfast police told this publication that the fugitive escaped after handcuffs had been placed on him for burglary.
A spokesperson said: ”officers had just arrived on the scene and placed handcuffs on the suspect who was being arrested for burglary, but he managed to evade the officers and escape with the handcuff on him. He will be hiding somewhere with the cuffs on his hands”’
The escape of this suspect has raised several concerns and prompted scrutiny of the security protocols in place.
In a statement to The Eye Of Media.Com today, Belfast police said:
”Police in west Belfast have charged a 26 year old man who absconded from officers in the Falls Road area of west Belfast yesterday afternoon, Saturday 9th September, with criminal damage, theft, assault on police and obstructing police.
He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on Friday 6th October. As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service”.
