A teacher in Florida has been sentenced to 22 years in jail after confessing to sleeping with 3 of her 17 year old students.
Jennifer Filter wept after confessing to an abortion after sex with a teenager. ”All I can say is I’m sorry, she told family members and the courts. I wish I could take it back, and my words are not going to suffice, I know that”, she said.
What a silly wish to have. Prevention is better than cure, so it would have been much better if she had controlled her sexual urges than risk the sort of shame she should easily have foreseen. The American had just left another job where she had been accused of inappropriate behaviour. Quite clearly, she had a thing for young boys, but was foolish enough to get them in the school where she worked. It is difficult to understand why teachers who end up in trouble for this type of offence fail to see it coming before it does. Boys will always brag if they manage to bed a female teacher; they get a badge of honour from their peers.
A teacher’s job is to educate the pupil and instil good qualities in them. Qualities that really should include these young boys and girls controlling their sexual urges and not giving in to indiscriminate sex. When a teacher falls prey to the very pitfall they ought to protecting their pupils from, it becomes clear that they lack the full discipline and quality for the job. The prosecution in this case pointed out that just because she is female and the other students were willing participants does not make them less victimized.
The suggestion that the boys were victimized is none sense, because they knew what they were doing in indulging in sexual relations with their teacher. However, the argument might be that the teacher failed to protect the boys from their own lustful desires when she voluntarily lured them into sexual activity. She will have a lot of reflecting to do in jail.
