Facebook and social media should be limited to 16 year olds.
Reports of anxiety suffered by many teens because of bullying on social media is disturbing.
Several teens spend too much time on Facebook, which has become a haven for bullying by teenage bullies and even younger kids.
Facebook Used To Ridicule Others
Children ridicule pictures of their mates, especially those who are overweight.
Children, in particular teenagers, can be very uncharitable, using the social media platform for bullying.
Young people under 16 should be focussing on their studies instead of wasting time on frivolous activities online.
Teenagers in the UK have too much free time and spend a lot of their time pursuing relationships online or responding to pursuits online.
Facebook Used For Rumuors
Others use the opportunity to spread rumuors, berate and tease their friends and engage in vain posing and chats.
The EU considered changing the law to restricting age limits to 16 in 2015. The current age limit is 13, but that age is still too young.
The bar should be higher. Monitoring such law will present challenges of its own but they can addressed.
A law insisting that all Facebook users must only use their own photos will make it a criminal offence for children who use fake photos.
Such a law will not be hard to police, but first the government needs to appreciate the need to stipulate age limits beyond the current age limit .
Bullying is bad enough in schools, and should be stopped from continuing online. The UK government should seriously consider imposing restrictive laws, and many other countries should follow suit.
