Face coverings will become mandatory on public transport,Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced today.
The measures are designed to prevent the spreading of the virus, where social distancing distancing is not possible.
Face masks prevent people from the spreading the virus to others through coughing.
In Scotland, people are advised to wear face masks on public transport and in enclosed public spaces but it’s not compulsory.
Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon said on Thursday that she was considering making the measure compulsory. Any change activated in Scotland will appear to be for the purposes of bringing it in line with the latest announcement from the Transport Secretary.
In Wales, wearing face coverings is a matter of personal choice, while in Northern Ireland it is recommended that people “should think about using face coverings in enclosed spaces where social distancing is not possible”.
