Junckers threat to take Britain out is dangerous. Once again, EU President Jean Claud Juncker, is treading dangerous lines.
“We will take Britain one way or another. You can Brexit all you want, but can you hold out against an EU Army so large that we could take the UK in two days? Britain will be our first port of call, then finish Russia once and for all, then anyone else who disagrees with our Imperialistic expansion policies,” the EU president told an open session for the EU Commission on Friday.
Provocative
How can the EU president utter such provocative words? Juncker is acting like a bully, trying to hold Britain ransom just because of the shocking Brexit outcome. The fact he even referred to his policies as imperialistic, shocks the mind beyond belief. Juncker is now presenting himself as a dictator, with the threat of war. This is the same man who once said the difference between him and Hitler ”is more than just a bit of nuance”, when asked about his reaction to Boris Johnson’s election as Foreign Minister, considering he had drawn parallels between Juncker and Hitler’s campaign.
OVERSIGHT
Johnson’s decision to make such an extreme comparison may have been an oversight on the part of the former Mayor of London, nevertheless, Juncker is dancing to the gallery here. However, erroneous or impalatable the Brexit referendum outcome may be to him, or any of us, belligerent behavior is no recommendation for any level of professionalism. It raises cause for concern, and an urgent need to alert Juncker that this type of rhetoric is not acceptable in modern politics.
Dialogue and the application of reason has always been the measure of real maturity and development, the absence of this quality can be very perilous.
VETO
Meanwhile, whilst Britain still remains in the EU, they have the power to veto any such establishment of an EU army. The dilemma becomes the fact the EU governing bodies could now implement that rule when the time comes for Britain to invoke Article 50.Perhaps specific prospective legislation may need be applied to bar an ill-motived agenda of this type, aimed at isolating and intimidating Britain.
UNDERFUNDED
Britain’s armed forces is believed to be too underfunded and dismantled, in the wake of budget cuts to MOD funding, to currently pose any credible opposition to threat of an EU attack.Theresa May will be required to boost MOD funding full swing, to give Britain an opposing chance in any such event. No such event is desirable, but a unhealthy momentum is building.
However, Juncker’s tone is provocative and unprofessional, though a measured response to his woeful indiscretions, is necessary.
Juncker needs to be told directly by world leaders and the media that he is talking like a tyrant, and there is no place for Tyrants in offices of leadership. Not especially in public office, where responsibility for a whole people lie with the leader.
Throughout the years when Britain was in the EU, Juncker never contemplated forming an army at the time. In a distasteful vindictive manner, he is precipitating a very hostile climate, sure to worsen already heightened tensions between the UK and The EU.
