An east london school is celebrating an ofsted highest rating after being examined by the educational body.
The commendable report released on Friday last week about Forest Gate Community school said the school had improved “rapidly” under the “exemplary leadership and management” of head teacher Simon Elliott”. Describing teachers there as “passionate and knowledgeable” the report stated that “achievement was excellent among the 11-16 year old’s.
An ecstatic Mr Elliott welcomed the report, saying: “To achieve an outstanding judgment is an extremely difficult task.
“It could only have been achieved by some of the very best teachers and leaders in the country and the support from our wonderful local community. We look forward to the next challenge.”
Forest Gate is one of those area sin East London that has bred many losing and jail birds over the years. Drug dealing is rampant, and crimes of all sorts have been characteristic of the street traditions of the borough, Whist a number of brutal murders have happened in Forest Gate, the area is not as notorious as Harlesden(covered in a separate article) or some parts of South London where movie style crimes are often committed. Forest Gate is not reputed for having excellent secondary schools, though this has mainly been due to not having very good teachers, on top of the problem of lack of motivation on the part of children, and peer pressure.
However, since the 2012 Olympic games, east london has taken a different shape, with many high end businessmen and top professionals moving to the area. The price of properties and even rent, skyrocketed in Stratford, Forest Gate, Ilford, and some neighboring areas, attracting those who can afford it to the area. This has meant that aspiring teachers with the means to live in the area have moved in and applied for jobs in various schools there.
The school, based in Forest Lane, Forest Gate, also achieved a record-breaking set of G.C.S.E results last summer.
A spokesperson for the school said in a statement:: “This outstanding judgement is a reflection of all the hard work put in by everyone involved in our school – students, teachers, parents and governors.
“I am proud that we are making a difference to the lives of children in Forest Gate.”
