An earthquake in Italy that killed at least 38 people is devastating for the world. The quake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck central Italy and affected towns across three regions in lazio, Marche.
The quake is said to be comparable in intensity to that of the 2009 earth quake in the Abrasio region of central Italy that killed more than 300 people.
The death toll is expected to continue to rise, in a disaster many say took just 29 seconds to cause so much destruction.
The main damage occurred in Amatrice and has pretty much obliterated most of several villages in Italy.
Workers have been using heavy equipment and even their hands to try and free people from the rubble. The Mayor of Amatrice appealed for assistance on national television, stating that damage to roads and a bridge had cut Amatrice off.
Virtually all if the hamlet of pescara del Toronto was destroyed. Ambulances were in a frenzy in their race to rescue trapped people from the rubble, including children. Many are trapped under the rubble.
Tremors and earth quakes are said to be a daily occurrence in Italy, according to the Foreign office. They are caused by the movements in the Eurasian and African tectonic plates, which are in conflict with each other.
Authorities have stated that it is difficult to accurately measure the true scale of the casualties because of the tasking recovery job of rescue facing rescue teams. Search for life and the dead will continue into the morning.
Earthquakes have occurred since the beginning of time. but has been seriously on the rise in the last decade.
Earthquake records show that 88 earth quakes around the world happened today and 623 earth quakes have happened in the past 7 days. 2, 712 earth quakes have happened in the last month, and 44, 516 earthquakes have occurred in the past year, somewhere in the world.
England has been fortunate to escape the horrible misfortune of earthquakes, though a few earth tremors have occurred in Britain of minor consequence. We must hope a deadly earthquake never hits Britain, because it must be a very sorrowful thing for any nation to experience.
