A Dubai cleaner, who stole Dh7,300 in cash from his company, called his employer to apologise for the theft.
The victim- a 61-year-old Indian businessman told the Dubai Court of First Instance that he discovered the theft in October this year before receiving a phone call from the 37-year-old Indian cleaner, confessing to have stolen the money to pay his debts. He has not specified what the debts were for.
The businessman testified to the court that he had kept Dh7,300s (£1,481.03) in his office for five days, after which he noticed the money was missing. The idea of leaving cash in his office where other employees work was careless, but an honourable employee should not have stolen the money. why the man why the man admitted It remains unclear the theft, but some other employees have suggested there were enough reasons to be suspicious of the defendant.
The unnamed man said he needed to pay his ailing mother’s medical treatment.
“I summoned all employees and asked them about the money. I said I would alert the police. Everyone denied knowing anything about the theft. After I left the company, the suspect called me to tell me that he stole the money while cleaning the office,” said the Indian businessman in official records.
“He apologised and told me that he borrowed money from his friends to pay for his ailing mother’s treatment and that he stole the money to pay his debts.” The victim had reported the incident to Al Refaa Police station.
The court is expected to give a verdict on December 31.
