Diane Mitchell’s academy has concluded its musical summer school today, building the confidence of several attending youths.
The award winning academy, based in Scotland, is an opportunity for young people to build their musical talent through plenty of practise using instruments .
The age range varies, with some children between the ages of 5 and 8 attending, and another group between the ages of 10 and 13. Some teenagers over 16 also attend the highly sought after music academy.
The summer school began on July 3rd, starting with singing and music activities in which musical concepts are taught with various art crafts. This was for children between the ages of 5 and 10 years of age- an occasion loved by all kids who attended.
The Rockstar Recordings summer workshop was mainly focused on children between the ages of 10 and 13 years of age, where children played in a band and recorded their original song at the end of the week.
Children were taught musical concept s during the summer school and loved every bit of it.
The experience helped them build confidence and beat anxiety, lifting their spirits and giving them sense of focus and purpose, rather than being aimless in the summer.
Many of the children, like most youths have complex issues that include anxiety and low self esteem, but experience a notable lift at the outstanding academy.
Parents pay £150 for their each week, and the school lasts three weeks in the summer.
Music coach and administrator , Jordan Thomas Edgar, told The Eye Of Media.Com: ”It ahs been a great experience for many of the children.
‘Some of them were lacking confidence at the beginning, but gradually began to gain confidence as time went on. Sometimes, they make mistakes, but repetition gives them the opportunity to correct those mistakes.
‘The more they overcome their errors and get it right, the more confident they feel. It has also notably helped some of them beat anxiety, because many young people have different levels of anxiety for different reasons.
‘Music has many benefits for the mind and brain that go beyond just the melody or playing of an instrument.
”Most of the children were musically focused, and this helps them focus on producing an original piece of music and recording it.
The children learn Dysney songs how to play notes, co-ordinating instruments with singings
‘Their confidence was getting higher, and any testified it helped them feel more relaxed.
This year, we had a total of 15 students, some are there for one week, others come for the whole three weeks.
‘We have private tutors help build their confidence, and it is relatively educational based
”One generally gets a feeling of accomplishment at the end of it
”Its a big boost to their confidence when the recordings come out better than they thought.
Exams
The music school also conducts exams for its pupils, but these are not set at a particular day and time in the conventional way of schools.
The academy selects the best time for each pupil to conduct the graded exam, which gives some of the an edge in school, particularly those of them in primary school.
”All of our tutors gear them for graded exams. Mr Edgar explained.
‘When the tutor feels they are ready, their parents are approached for those exams
‘Some of them fly through those exams, we had an 8 year old do really well in an exam last year’.
The Diane Mitchell Music School, which runs classes in Paisley and Barrhead, was named Music School of the Year in the annual Scotland Prestige Awards in 2021.
The outstanding offers private tuition and group classes to people of all ages and from all walks of life.
