Two people were arrested by police for travelling from Liverpool to Devon with a large amount of crack cocaine and heroin.
The suspects were chased by armed response police officers alongside a police air service helicopter who were involved in the stop of the vehicle in McKay Avenue, Torquay. The pair had been travelling when expected to be observing the covid-19 lockdown like the rest of the Uk. Cops arrested a 20-year-old male passenger, and a 39-year-old woman from Torquay who was driving the vehicle. Both were arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.
A search of the vehicle resulting in an estimated two ounces of suspected crack cocaine and one ounce of suspected heroin with an estimated street value of around £10,000. The Eye Of Media.Com heard unconfirmed reports that police were unable to definitely confirm the drugs discovered were exactly what they appeared to be, and so released the suspects without charge
In a charge of possession, where it is averred that a particular drug is not controlled by virtue of an exception contained in Regulations made under section 7(1)(a) of the Drugs Offences Act, the burden of proof that the drug falls outside the exception is for the prosecution and not the defence.
Drugs are “controlled drugs” if they are specified as being of Class A, B or C, as set out in Parts I, II or III of Schedule 2 to the Act.
Liverpool is notorious for its county lines drugs, with many young teenagers committed to a life of drug dealing, having being recruited by adults dealers who have been in the game right from their early teens. Devon and Cornwall police did not specify why charges were not brought against the pair, but a Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said:
“Police arrested a 20-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, both from Torquay, on suspicion of possessing a class A drug after a stop and search of a vehicle on McKay Avenue, Torquay between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday 2 April.”The 20-year-old has been bailed until 30 April and the 39-year-old has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.”
