A detective Constable formerly attached to West Area of the Metropolitan Police, has been dismissed from duty following a misconduct hearing that found him in breach of professional standards.
Det Con Hasheem Waseem had engaged in discreditable conduct by being in possession of drugs while on duty, a violation deemed unacceptable by police authorities.
Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson condemned Waseem’s actions, emphasizing the grave impact of drug possession on communities.
Wilson stressed that such behavior has no place within the police force, and Det Con Waseem’s dismissal underscores the Met’s zero-tolerance approach towards misconduct.
The incident came to light on July 6, 2022, when an officer discovered a package containing cocaine on the floor of a police building. Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of the illicit substance, prompting an investigation.
CCTV footage revealed Det Con Waseem dropping the package while on duty, leading to his immediate arrest.
Upon searching Waseem, authorities uncovered two additional packets of cocaine in his possession, further incriminating the officer. These findings not only substantiated the initial allegations but also raised serious concerns about the extent of Waseem’s involvement with illegal substances.
Detective Constable Hashim Waseem will now be added to the Barred List maintained by the College of Policing, effectively prohibiting him from future employment within the policing sector.
The decision to include him on this register reflects the gravity of his transgressions and serves as a deterrent against similar misconduct among law enforcement personnel.
