David Jason, has been accused of racism when he reflected on the Queens sense of humor.
The only fools and horses television presenter messed up in his response
to a question by television presenter, Kirsty young to give an example of one of the Queens jokes to show her sense of humor.
In an embarrassing show of disappointment, he came out with a comment by the Queen where she said she thought she was speaking to a gorilla. His reference to that comment as a show of her sense of humor has been branded racist.
The comment in question by the Queen was made during a 1969 BBC documentary, called The Royal family. The comments were
in reference to a diplomat the queen once met, whose body proportions were strange.
Yet her choice of the word Gorilla on national television was an expression of her shock, though perhaps shocking in itself to her television audience at the time, enough to make them laugh.
What many commentators saw as bad taste, was Jasons choice in expressing a recollection he should have known would be offensive. The allegation of racism may be misplaced unless Jason was actually thinking in those terms. It may have been more of stupidity than anything else.
It was extremely reckless of him to go so far back in time and select that comment of all examples he could think of especially for her 90th birthday celebrations. His example did not do the Queen any favors at all.
If anything, he carelessly may have appeared to present her majesty as racist, without presenting the full circumstances and context of her comments. You can bet that the Queen was not amused.
