DAVID HAYE MAKES LIGHT WORK OF ARNOLD GJERGJAJ

DAVID HAYE MAKES LIGHT WORK OF ARNOLD GJERGJAJ

GABRIEL PRINCEWILL

David Haye made light work of Switz opponent Arnold Gjergjaj  before an 02 crowd.

The Londoner made none sense of the visitors unbeaten record such that made him look over matched.

After dropping him in the first round,  powerful David Haye assaulted a barrage of shots that led to the crumbling of his opponent, who was out of his depth in taking on the former two weight champion.

Gjergjajjet would have shown more of his ability against weaker opposition, but had nothing substantive to offer a high elite fighter like Haye, who showed the gulf in class between the two men. Gjergjaj flies back to his country with  his record rightfully dented, but with a handsome undisclosed purse for the appearance which may just console him as he returns to his home country with his first loss inflicted on him so emphatically.

David Haye, next faces American knock out artist, Shannons Briggs, after the 44 year old mercilessly bashed his opponent, Ezequiel Zarnte in a one round show. Briggs looked in great shape and assertively delivered his punches with purpose and conviction, until his opponent folded under the barrage of shots, Briggs looking masterful in the process. Briggs faces Haye next in what will be a fight build up characterized by acrimony and brovado, with the dangling carrot of meaningful fights waiting in the wings.  Briggs- an eccentric and funny individual- is a longtime veteran of the ring, and has mixed with the likes of Lennox Lewis in his younger days, rocking the former undisputed heavyweight champion in the first round of their encounter, before falling after five rounds.

DANGEROUS

Haye said after the fight that he likes dangerous fights, and will not underestimate Briggs because of his age, but instead will expect the best Shannon Briggs to turn up. On the strength of Briggs’s performance on Saturday, the American is capable of causing an upset against David Haye, however confident of victory the Londoner is.  A naturally confident  fighter since his professional debut, Haye will look awesome if he blasts Briggs out in the first three rounds when the pair meet in September. Briggs will be expected to put up a real fight against Haye. Briggs has a 77.9% knock out ratio looks like he may present Haye with a cracking fight and possibly also a stern test of his readiness for the next level of the division. Haye currently looks a dangerous opponent for any heavyweight in the world now, and the Briggs fight may just be the catalyst that propels him to the big and rich fight he so so earnestly craves.  That big fight he craves is against  popular IBF world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, in a clash that will capture the imagination of the country and at least pose a genuine risk and challenge to both fighters whenever that fight finally occurs.

Haye has often expressed confidence he will knock out heavy hitting Joshua, adding that  Joshua’s team are avoiding him because he is not ready. However, there are a number of ordinary brits who feel Joshua would beat Haye, with equally large numbers of fans and observers convinced that Haye will beat Joshua. An eventual meeting with the pair will sell both domestically and internationally in what will be a blockbuster exhibition. First, Joshua must get past unbeaten American
