Daniel Dubois Targets Best Of Heavyweights After Emphatic Fourth Round KO Of Mouthy America

By Gabriel Princewill-

Big punching Daniel Dubois is targeting the best of the world’s heavyweights , after brutally serving  overconfident and mouthy American, Trevor Bryan, with humble pie, following a fourth-round knockout in Miami on Saturday.

Mouthy Bryan was dumped on the canvas in the fourth round after taking a mother of beatings from dynamite Dubois who delivered a series of devastating blows to end the American’s unbeaten record and eclipse the relative accomplishments that had seen him hold the WBA regular belt- really a fringe version of the WBA super belt currently held by  Olegsander Usyk with three other belts after he seized them all from Anthony Joshua last September.

Bryan had unjustifiably criticized Dubois for ‘quitting’ following the puncture to his eye socket during his only loss to Joe Joyce in a close contest Dubois had been winning marginally, before succumbing to the cumulative effects of Joyce’s ramrod jabs on that fateful night.

However, in the ring last Saturday was a rejuvenated Dubois who had shaken off the memory of that loss, and was poignantly industrious in his mission to smash up his feisty rival, and show him who indeed is boss over who in a ring limited in size and designed for one of the fighters to bludgeon the other emphatically, leaving nothing up for argument.

A masterful demolition job of Whyte surpassing that inflicted on him by Fury, will put extra pressure on the gypsy king to have to face Dubois, even if he were to unify the heavyweight belts against  the winner of Joshua and Usyk. In the build up to the fight, Bryan had spoken bullishly about his chances of success against Dubois, but none of his assertive words  translated into any semblance of the dominant performance he had promised.   The American  was no where as sturdy or resilient as Joyce was, providing limited opposition to the venomous offensive delivered by Dubois, who was keen to  use him as a stepping stone  to  the big time.

After the scintillating triumph, Dubois expressed a readiness to face the best the world has to offer, as he was made mandatory opponent to the WBA belt Joshua and Usyk will battle for in August in their eagerly awaited rematch. An immediate shot at the winner will likely elude Dubois as Joe Joyce is also mandatory to the WBO belt, and Joshua is expected  to target Tyson Fury for a very lucrative unification fight in the likely event of a masterful demolition of Usyk this August in recapturing his belt.

Joshua has hired reputable trainer Robert Garcia, to marshal out a tactical plan to mount a forceful submission of the talented Usyk, securing a victory that will not only transform the Londoner’s fighting spirit, but also make Joshua a force to reckon with in the sports premiere division.

Should  Fury stay retired, Dubois will be waiting in the wings to face the winner of Joshua v Usyk.  The supremely confident gypsy king will struggle to resist the allure of not only a record breaking pay day, but the inevitable necessity to attain true greatness by taking on Joshua in the biggest unification fight in decades.

In the meantime, Dubois appears to be prepared to continue his trajectory of explosive wins against big names by staying busy against Dillian Whyte, if he can’t get a straight shot at the WBA title. A clash will Whyte could provide a crucial benchmark for a comparative assessment of Fury’s own demolition job on Whyte and make the young Londoner an even more serious contender to face the winner of a unification fight.

A masterful demolition job of Whyte surpassing that inflicted on him by Fury, will put extra pressure on the gypsy king to have to face Dubois, even if he were to unify the heavyweight belts against  the winner of Joshua and Usyk.

With unbeaten Joe Joyce still waiting for his own shot at a title, the next year could provide an interesting matrix of heavyweight battles in the quest for dominance.

A confident  Dubois said: ‘I feel I can fight anyone. I know there will be a wait before Fury, Joshua or Usyk become available but I am now the man everyone who wants to fight for the other world titles has to go through.

‘That applies to Dillian. Fine by me. He’s on my list of those who knocked me for retiring against Joe Joyce and he’s going to get it. He likes playing the villain but he’ll find out that I can be the bad guy. He’s going to get it from me.’
