Newyork- The press conference to promote the heavyweight fight world title fight between Britain’s Tyson Fury and Deontey Wilder was as exciting as expected with the usual brovado given by two larger than life personalities. The pair of humongous talking machine heavyweights already exchanged insults in England on Monday. In Newyork , both men were speaking promisingly of a knock out victory, as though the outcome of a knockout was something they could guarantee.
Fury went as far as referring to his unbeaten American opponent as a bum, telling the world that Wilder has only beaten ”tomato cans that can’t fight back”. When two big heavyweights- one an American, the other , a brit- swap insults and promise knockouts before an American audience, that stuff sells. Americans love theatrical stuff, it does mot come much better than two ultra confident fighters who have never stated defeat.
This high promotional affair was initially penciled to occur between Anthony Joshua and Deontey Wilder, until Fury courageously but maybe foolishly stepped in to steal the show and take a chance at recapturing the heavyweight titles he once possessed when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko . Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearns, announced today he had made an offer to Wilder’s team for an April bout against Joshua in Wilder, but the American’s team have their focus on preparations for the Fury fight.
Fury was very dismissive of Wilder’s chances of victory at the highly charged press conference , overlooking his own underdog position in this global contest, and choosing to focus on the considerable smaller size of Wilder. Wilder is much smaller in weight than Fury, but is in terrific condition and shape which will only improve come fight night. Fury, the English gypsy man, will have to work miracles and surprise the world by turning up at between 17 stone 5 and 17 stone 7 to have a realistic chance of possibly defeating Wilder.
Wilder, who hasn’t lost in 40 fights, and has just one opponent that has gone the distance reminding the audience of his long knock out record. Wilder said: “People want to see knockouts and I deliver that each and every time. I promise you I’m going to knock out the gypsy king. TIMBER!” Fury replied: “I want to thank everybody for turning up. And even Deontay knows to sit down in the presence of greatness.
“He can’t box, he’s knocked bums out, he fights tomato cans who can’t fight back. He’s not going to land one of those windmills on my chin.
“His a*** is going to fall out. How am I going to let this skinny little spaghetti hoop man beat me? I didn’t come here to be embarrassed by this little runt.”
“To win would be a dream come true. But when I win I’m going to let him keep his belts. I don’t want that belt. I want the Tyson Fury limited edition WBC belt.
“I’m a crazy man. I want a war with this little plum. I want to break his ribs. I’m going to make this bum quit. This man has never fought a champion. And this idiot thinks he’s going to beat something.
“You all know he works for me right? He’s a dosser, carries my bags around.
“Last note, I’m going to knock this bum spark out. And you heard it here first.
Wilder, 32, added: “I dared him to come back for this very moment. I want him to have confidence and high energy.
“His face will get smashed up and his body will be on the pavement. He’s so nervous right now.” Fury may not be nervous if he is confident of victory, a confidence based on Wilder being much smaller at just over 15 stone. He could easily brush aside Wilder’s dismantling of so many other bigger heavyweights , because none is as big as him. This gigantic lineal champion has gotta be in very good shape to strip Wilder of his WBC belt-perhaps that’s the plan and Fury believes he is on track.
