Mr Johnson said London appeared to be “a few weeks ahead” of other areas and urged people in the capital to pay special attention to the measures – including home working – suggested by the Government. The radical guidance from the British government could mean entire households  being told to stay at home under the radical new coronavirus guidance issued today.

Individuals over 70 and men women who are pregnant and people with chronic health conditions must limit their social contact, Public Health England chief medical officer Chris Whitty said.

He described the new guidance for those more at risk as “absolutely critical”.Mr Johnson added: “This advice about avoiding all social contact is
particularly important for people over 70, for pregnant women and for those with some health conditions.” The prime minister rejected suggestions of criminal impositions against those who violate the advice.
