Clire Waight Keller, a British woman and the first female designer of Givenchy, has been revealed to be the designer of Meghan Markle’s wedding dress.
The news was confirmed as Meghan stepped out of her car and prepared to walk down the aisle. In a statement on Twitter, Kensington Palace said: “Ms. Meghan Markle’s wedding dress has been designed by the acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller. Ms. Waight Keller last year became the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy.”
The designer was a closely-guarded secret until a rumor emerged on Twitter this morning as guests began arriving at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.press photojournalist Niraj Tanna tweeted: “A little birdie tells me Meghan Markle’s dress has been designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller who is style and art director at Givenchy.”
British Waight Keller is known for her feminine, romantic asthetic materials. Givenchy has a rich history of haute couture. Waight Keller debuted her first couture collection for the house in January, and has been praised for “making couture relevant again.”Former Burberry Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey was previously rumored to be the designer of Markle’s dress, as was London-based Canadian label Erdem.
Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton famously designed the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding gown in 2011, and while she would undoubtedly rise to the occasion, it is unlikely that Meghan will opt for the same designer as Kate.
Royal protocol demands Meghan’s dress to be less expensive than Kate’s, which cost £150,000. The revelation is brilliant for Keller’s reputation as a world class designer, and will take her clout to the next level.
Press photojournalist Niraj Tanna tweeted earlier: “A little birdie tells me Meghan Markle’s dress has been designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller who is style and art director at Givenchy.”
This new suggestion may not be completely random as Ms Keller stared a photo on Instagram four days ago tagging her location in London.
