A City Law Firm has been closed down over fears of the deadly Coronavirus after one of their staff returned from Italy. Staff at the London office of City firm Baker McKenzie have been asked to work from home today over concerns about a potential outbreak of coronavirus.
Over 1,000 employees were told not to come into work after a person working at the prestigious Baker McKenzie which also has 119 partners recently returned from northern Italy and became unwell. All their staff including their operator are working from home. A spokesperson from the firm told The Eye Of Media.Com that the individual came in unwell yesterday, Thursday, prompting the precautionary measure from the firm.
The extent of the member of staff’s illness is being monitored and it has notyet been confirmed that he has contracted the coronovirus, Baker Mckenzie stressed. Members of the reputable firm will be updated on Sunday, the Spokesperson added. The firm could possibly be shut on Monday too, depending on developments over the weekend.
The news adds to the fears of the virus potentially spreading out o control, but the British government has promised to pull its resources to keep the virus in check.
A statement, the firm said: ‘Our priority is the health and well being of our people and our clients and we have asked our London office employees to work from home for the time being while we are taking precautionary measures in response to a potential case of the COVID-19.
‘We have a well-established agile working programme – including technology and IT systems for home working – which allows us to take these precautionary measures without impacting our client service delivery. We continue to closely monitor the situation and are following the advice and guidance issued by the government and Public Health England.’ .
