Cigarette companies have been urged to stop selling tobacco as they urged smokers in the Uk to quit the habit.
The warning to companies and the smoking public comes on the same day The Eye of Media.Com asked PHE England for research information about the percentage of Covid -19 victims with no known underlying issues who were smokers or drinkers. We were referred to the Nhs for that information . which is being looked into.
PHE officials highlighted a survey from Wuhan, China, where the outbreak began, which found smokers who developed COVID-19 were 14 times more likely to develop severe disease. The study took place between 30 December last year and 15 January 2020 and was published in the Chinese Medical Journal.
PHE emphasised that the virus has easier access to an individual’s body during the process of smoking, in which the smoker repeatedly raise their hands to their mouth. Earlier today, the Nhs revealed that .PHE officials also highlighted a survey from Wuhan, China, where the outbreak began, which found smokers who developed COVID-19 were 14 times more likely to develop severe disease.
The report, by the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre, also found that black and ethnic minority groups make up a third of patients in hospital, despite only comprising 13 % of the population. Released statistics revealed that 14 per cent were Asian, 14 per cent black and 7 per cent described themselves as other.
Other issues compounding the disproportionate figures in higher rates for minority groups include higher levels of poverty, stress, and other issues.
