Christine Ohuruogu To Inspire Young Minds With Story Telling Session At East London University

Olympic athlete Christine Ohuruogu is set to inspire young minds with a special storytelling session at the University of East London (UEL).

Ohuruogu, renowned for her achievements as an Olympic, World, and Commonwealth 400m champion, is also a dedicated children’s author. She will be reading from her own books, as well as other selected stories, on June 12 at 4pm at UEL’s Stratford Water Lane campus.

Ohuruogu’s advocacy for literacy is further demonstrated through her involvement in running a university book club. The initiative is aimed at fostering young people’s literacy, learning, and life skills. Additionally, her commitment extends to the university’s Sport in Your Futures programme, an initiative designed to provide under-served primary pupils with opportunities to engage in new sports and attend live sporting events.

Parents are encouraged to invite their young children to the event, and the accomplished athlete is also expected to highlight  to her audience, the importance of reading.

Joining her will be a fellow storyteller from the Discover Children’s Story Centre, as part of the university’s Innovation and Enterprise Summer Festival. This event highlights Ohuruogu’s role as a university ambassador, where she supports various sports, education, and literacy programs at UEL.

Christine Ohuruog, received an honorary doctorate in the arts from UEL in 2009, recognizing her contributions to both sport and the community.

The Innovation and Enterprise Summer Festival, a public event running from 3pm until 8pm on June 12, is free to attend and will feature a variety of science-themed activities. This festival promises to be an engaging and educational experience for attendees, highlighting UEL’s commitment to innovation, education, and community engagement.

Ohurougu was inducted into the London Youth Games Hall of Fame in 2009. and Ohuruogu studied at University College London, where she graduated in Linguistics in 2005
