Chicago Police have released video footage of a police chase of a carjacking gun man.
The footage shows the chase in which the culprit puts his hands out of the window and fires several shots at the cops, with one of the bullets Grazing the police officers head, as the officer yells audibly in pain.
The chase occurred in the Southern suburb of grassland. Chicago Police later revealed the name of the carjacker being chased as 24 year old Charles Lawson, a man jailed for seven and a half years in 2011 for robbery.
The footage taken by the dash board camera shows the dramatic chase which concluded when the man eventually through the gun out of the window and surrendered himself with his hands up, as about six policemen surrounded and apprehended the known criminal.
Lawson was eventually charged with theft of a vehicle, fleeing, eluding, and discharging of a firearm, all aggravated by the possession of a firearm.
The Chicago Police department stressed the claim that they face this type of danger to life on a daily basis, whilst U.S police are being scrutinized for everything they do.
Recent nation wide police scrutiny in America has long been necessary in the wake of several unjustified killings of black people. But this video shows the risks that face police in the course of their duty.
This high risk as evidenced in the video does not justify some of the brutal killings of defenseless people, albeit criminals, in the hands of police.
