Canadian prime minister , Justin Trudeau was reduced to tears following a reunion with a Syrian refugee.
Canadian Prime minister,Justin Trudeau wiped away tears during a reunion with a Syrian refugee he greeted on arrival to Canada a year ago. A Canadian female reader sent the eye if media.com the news saying ”don’t we have a great prime minister”. ”I think you guys are great so thought you might like this”
Mr Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, and Vanig Garabedian were among a small group that gathered at a Toronto restaurant last week to reflect on the first year of the Syrian refugee programme, CBC Canada reported.
Reflecting on the moment Garabedin met the Prime minister last December after boarding a Toronto-bound plane in Beirut, he sid
‘That day meant many things for me’ – Canada’s PM brought to tears in tear-jerking reunion with Syrian refugee
PM Justin Trudeau wiped away tears during a meeting with Syrian refugees, one who recalled being greeted by Mr Trudeau when he arrived a year ago.
“He shook hands with me and said, ‘go and make Canada a better place’… so that was the very last person I shook hands with in the Middle East,” Mr Garabedian said.
“Then we landed at Pearson Airport, and the very first person we shook hands with was the prime minister,” Garabedian said, prompting Trudeau to grab a napkin off the table and wipe his eyes.
Mr Garabedian said landing in Toronto not only meant that he, his wife and their daughters were safe, it also meant they had taken on “the responsibility of joining the Canadian family and trying to build this Canada, this country, this great nation”.
“When I met Mr Prime Minister at that moment, he said two words: ‘Welcome home’.
“So imagine you are living in a war zone, you are leaving your home and you are welcomed by two words: welcome home,” said Garabedian, a gynaecologist by trade.
“So my memories of that moment went back to Syria before war our life, our happiness there, and the horrible moments we went through during war.
“So I felt myself that I’m proud to be here.”
The feeling of escaping a war-torn country to a country is unimaginable. It must be like going to heaven and escaping all the woes of this troubled world. Except that this is better as the difference between heaven and a war free country won’t be as great as the difference between leaving a war-torn country to a peaceful war free one like Canada.
There has been a lot of concern about integrating Syrians into western countries because of the potential of letting terrorists in amongst them.
That is a real concern, but the compassion , sympathy and empathy in our hearts must be greater than that when we think of the horror and sorrow that accompanies a war-torn country.
In this sense, taking in a fair quota of refugees is responsibility we cannot shy away from totally. The Canadian Prime Minister should be admired for being so warm hearted and deeply humanitarian. This footage of him in tears shows the great side of his humanity.
