Camelot has praised the generosity of its lottery winners, after a kind-hearted couple who were once so poor that they relied on friends to buy their children shoes, have been praised for leaving mystery gifts at food banks during lockdown to show their gratitude.
Britain’s national lottery operator has praised its history of generous lottery winners, after being moved by the kind gestures displayed by Grant and Taryn Hawkes, from Newquay, Cornwall, who scooped £1m on the Lotto Millionaire Raffle win two years ago.

The couple from Cornwall , won a whopping £1 million on The National Lottery, using their last £2 left in their National Lottery account, after the husband became ill and had to stop working.
Taryn and Grant Hawkes, of Newquay celebrated their good fortune after winning the Lotto Millionaire Raffle just over 2 years ago in March 2018.
Grant, 43, had been diagnosed with a crippling muscle disease, and had to give up work as an electrician, was forced to manage on the wage of his 42 year old partner, as a teaching assistant.
She said: “Colleagues were offering us shoes for the children, food parcels and the odd fiver to help us pay electricity bills. It was so tough – I remember walking into the supermarket with five pounds for the week, wondering how I could buy enough food for the kids.”
She explained, “Little triggers like putting a nice joint of meat in my shopping trolley or not having to pause at the bargain shelf for the sell-by-date offers often hit me with no warning and I’ll just start to well-up in the middle of the shop.”
Taryn revealed: “We leave gift cards behind shop counters for other people who are struggling, we’ve given money to food banks, bought a high chair for a local domestic violence charity and we’ve helped friends who have lost their jobs during the pandemic.
“We’ve also helped the causes which once supported us in our time of need.”

Grant has been able to provide private Yoga mindfulness classes and hydrotherapy, both of which have helped enormously.
A change in diet to healthy, home cooked food, was also a factor that allowed him to take his first painful steps without crutches three months after the win.
Taryn revealed: “We leave gift cards behind shop counters for other people who are struggling, we’ve given money to food banks, bought a high chair for a local domestic violence charity and we’ve helped friends who have lost their jobs during the pandemic
Grant said: “Just not having to worry about money made such a huge difference.
“We bought a convertible BMW, a VW camper van with room for surf boards and last October, we went on our first ever foreign holiday – an all-inclusive trip to Majorca which was Taryn and the children’s first time on a plane.”

Great-great grandfather Alan Stanley, 75, and wife Yvonne, decided to treat their loved ones after scooping the huge jackpot.
The couple – who have six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter – won big after their postcode sector, HU7 4, was announced as the winner of People’s Postcode Lottery’s Postcode Millions
