Passengers commuting on two key east London train lines are facing significant disruptions following incidents of damage to overhead electric wires and a fallen tree, causing widespread delays and cancellations.
The trouble began last night, as National Rail reported issues with the c2c line, a vital connection between Essex and central London, around 5:30 pm on April 15th.
The damage to the overhead electric wires occurred between Barking and Pitsea, prompting c2c to warn passengers to anticipate cancellations and delays as repair efforts got underway.
The disruption coincided with a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office for strong winds sweeping across much of England, with gusts exceeding 40mph reported in some areas. The adverse weather conditions likely contributed to the damage to the overhead wires, exacerbating the challenges faced by commuters.
As of the morning of April 16th, c2c has advised passengers to limit travel to essential journeys, with disruption expected to persist until approximately 10 am.
In order to mitigate the inconvenience, replacement buses will operate between Upminster and Pitsea via Laindon, as well as between Upminster and Grays via Ockendon.
Additionally, commuters can utilize their tickets on alternative routes provided by Greater Anglia, London Overground, and London Underground, with no extra charges, or opt for bus routes 248 and 370.
In a separate incident, a fallen tree entangled in the overhead electric wires between Walthamstow Central and Wood Street has forced a complete shutdown of the Overground line connecting Liverpool Street and Chingford.
The incident occurred shortly after 5 pm on April 15th, with disruptions expected to persist until midday on April 16th.
With train services halted along this route, passengers are advised to seek alternative transportation options, primarily local bus routes, to reach their destinations.
These disruptions underscore the vulnerability of rail infrastructure to adverse weather conditions and unexpected incidents, highlighting the importance of robust maintenance and contingency plans to minimize inconvenience for commuters.
A C2c spokesperson told The Eye Of Media.Com: ‘commuters are urged to stay informed about the evolving situation and plan their journeys accordingly, prioritizing safety and efficiency amidst the ongoing challenges.
‘We are doing our very best to improve the situation’.
