Residents have blasted the London Borough Of Havering Council after there were no safety measures in place to safeguard resident during a raging fire.
Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at the block of flats in Raven Close at 4.25pm on Thursday, August 8.
The whole roof of the block of flats was damaged by fire, forcing housing association L&Q was to find emergency accommodation for affected families that weekend while the damage was investigated.
An absence of fire alarms was the most alarming fact that residents found disturbing. Caring and selfless residents went round waking up others who were oblivious of the fire. An angry resident who wanted to remain anonymous told The Eye Of Media.Com that :” the lack of safety measures was so appalling that someone in the council should step down over it. Lives were put at risk and it is n fact a miracle that nobody died”.
Shocked residents who lost a lot of their belongings in the fire are still coming to terms with the shock, as they settle down in temporary accommodation. Many are planning to sue for compensation. Another resident said:
”people are so shocked and angry and want compensation for it. The trouble is not many people can afford to lodge a suit , so will be expecting the Council to do the honourable thing and offer compensation themselves. This was dreadful”.
The Londom Borough Of Havering made no comment, but said the matter was under investigation. The cause of the fire has still not been established.
