Buckingham Palace’s Superficial Ambiguous Statement Over Racist Allegations

By Gavin Mackintosh-

Buckingham Palace yesterday eventually released a statement stating that the whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the past few years has been for Harry and Meghan.

The statement which neither denied nor accepted the allegations, said the issues of race are very concerning, adding that recollections may vary. but will be taken very seriously and dealt with privately.

The statement appears to neither deny nor confirm  the racist allegations, without quite doing so. The idea recollections may vary gives the impression the claims made by Harry that a member of the royal family had expressed concern about  how dark the colour of their baby’s skin  would be may not  be quite accurate.

Yet in the absence of a total denial, the logical conclusion is that something of that nature was said. Harry vowed never to share the identity of the royal member who made the comments.

Defending the royal family, Meghan Markle’s father appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday. offering a defence for the comments made by the unknown member of the royal family, by suggesting it might have been a ”dumb question” asked in a different context

. The full circumstances of the question or the royal member who posed it, is one Harry said he would never reveal.

However, when added to the fact Harry was told his son would never have the title of becoming a prince, despite being the grandchild of the Queen,  leaves no doubt racism was a factor in the couple’s decision to step back from royal duties.

Add to that  the fact the couple had their security withdrawn when they stepped back from royal duties, and  were informed  that their child would have no protection when he grew up because he would have no royal title.

Meghan’s conclusion that it was a safe assumption that her child’s race was the reason he would have no title was one of the most embarrassing truths to emerge from the 2 hour interview.

Revelations made by Harry that he was forced out of the royal family because of lack of support and discrimination around race is in itself telling. Harry noted that 72 Mps had put out a joint statement condemning the sustained attacks against his wife in particular, saying he found it hurtful that his family wouldn’t say anything.

It is not the tradition of the royal family to counter press articles, though Meghan Markle insisted the palace had lied to protect other members of the family but wouldn’t tell the truth to protect her. This particular statement has not been independently verified by the palace who have made it clear they want to handle the fall out privately.

Meghan’s complaint that she was refused professional help for her mental health despite repeated requests was one of the most shocking revelations about the documentary.

Access to mental health provision is one of the basic requirements of every organisation, especially when a need for such assistance is clearly made.

The revelations are damaging to the image of the royal family,  but both Harry and Meghan spoke very well of the Queen .
